Homesteading and Gardening Classes - Spring 2013

Come have fun in the garden and learn how to make the most of your backyard!

All proceeds from these events will help fund next year’s Gardening and Cooking programs at Washington Elementary.  Classes will take place in the Washington School garden, and will be taught by community members including our own gardening and cooking instructors.  Unless noted, classes are from 10am-Noon and cost $25-$100 (sliding scale)

March 9
Raised Beds. Learn how to build a variety of different raised beds and the best ways to set up simple irrigation systems.  Register Here

apa John’s Raising Chickens workshop.  Basics of chicken coops and keeping chickens with expert homesteader Papa John Kiefer.  Register Here

March 23
Planting your year round veggie/herb garden.
Learn how to keep your garden producing food year round.  Register Here            

April 14
Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
 Learn the basics of how to attract beneficial insects into your garden and how to deal with common pests.  Register Here

May 4
Build Your Own Worm Bin:  Turn your veggie scraps into amazing soil. Worm bins (and this class!) are super kid friendly, and great for small spaces.  Register Here

May 5
Cooking from the Garden:  Come to our Cinco de Mayo Fiesta Fundraiser and make tortillas & pickled vegetables in a gorgeous Berkeley backyard.  Adult beverages provided. 4-8pm, $50-$100  Register Here
